Saturday Sayings 2026 OCT: R.C. Sproul

R.C. Sproul (1939-2017) was one of the most influential Reformed theologians in the late 20th century and into the early 21st century. R.C. (Robert Charles) was a conservative Presbyterian minister, former pastor of St. Andrews Chapel, founder of Ligonier Ministries, and author of several Christian books.

“You can’t love Jesus and not love his Word.” #RCSproul

This quote is short, sweet, and true. I believe loving God’s word equals reading and studying it daily, making it one of the most important things we do in our lives.

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:103-105

The Bible should be a part of our daily lives.

“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:97

And as believers, instructed to imitate God by walking in the ways of Christ as revealed in His word, we can know His will for our lives through studying the Bible.

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2

The word of God is precious, and holy and good, and it directs our paths!

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Bible explains that there are really only two kinds of people, sheep and goats.

Sheep are included in the kingdom of heaven and goats are not.

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Matthew 25:31-34

The sheep are all those who have truly placed their faith in Jesus Christ.

The goats are all those who never placed their faith in Christ.

“I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” John 8:24

The simple truth is, ten out of ten people die and there are only two ways of doing so.

R.C. Sproul sums it this way:

“There are only two ways of dying. We can die in faith or we can die in our sins.” #RCSproul

Most importantly, if you haven’t already done so, repent and believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ today.

The late R.C Sproul spoke many times on the topic of the justice of God. Here are a few of his quotes:

“The justice of God is always and ever an expression of his holy character.” #RCSproul

God is both Just and the Justifier. #RCSproul

“God does not always act with justice. Sometimes he acts with mercy. Mercy is not justice, but it also is not injustice. Injustice violates righteousness. Mercy manifests kindness and grace and does no violence to righteousness. We may see nonjustice in God, which is mercy, but we never see injustice in God.” #RCSproul

“If we despise the justice of God, we are not Christians.” #RCSproul

This next one, is from his book called, “Choosing my Religion.”

“There are only two ways that God’s justice can be satisfied with respect to your sin. Either you satisfy it or Christ satisfies it. You can satisfy it by being banished from God’s presence forever. Or you can accept the satisfaction that Jesus Christ has made.” #RCSproul

“For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.” Isaiah 30:18

“God has entrusted to us the ministry of the Word, not its results.” #RCSproul

I think at first glance it might appear that this quote from the late R.C. Sproul is directed to preachers, but I do believe this can be applied to anyone who is a believer in Christ.

In Luke 8:38-39 and Mark 5:19, Jesus told individuals to go and tell others about what God has done for them. And, of course in the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus commanded His disciples to go and to spread the gospel to all the nations.

When I was a young Christian, in the early 1980s through the early 2000s, one of my favorite pastors, was the late Charles Stanley, from First Baptist Atlanta. He often said, “Obey God, and leave all the consequences to Him.”  I took that to heart many years ago.

So, when I share my faith I well know there’re lot of people out there who may reject Christ and therefore, reject me, and whatever I say or write about Him. But I really don’t worry about that because I know as a Christian, my job is telling, God’s job is saving.

“At times it may seem the darkness is winning, but God’s word stands firm.”

#RCSproul

Without going into details, I think I speak for many people today who have noticed that there seems to be a lot of greed, corruption, and evil practices going on in the world today. Not that these types of things haven’t always been among us, but rather that many of us have become so much more aware of them.

Thank God for His word that guides us and provides encouragement while living in a world full of spiritual darkness.

R.C. Sproul reminds us in his writing titled, A Call for Endurance, that even though it may seem we are “surrounded by darkness the light remains.” People may “suppress the truth in unrighteousness, but the truth cannot be destroyed.” (Rom. 1:18-32). “Our Lord is building His church, and He will not be thwarted (Matt. 16:18) And, it is our high calling “to remain faithful to the Lord in this struggle, to fight for the truth of God’s Word and not to compromise. If we remain faithful, we are promised a sure and great reward: ‘The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.’” (Rev. 2:11b).
